Lets learn more about Kate Kelly – A Chiropractor with a special interest in Sport & Paediatrics
1. Please tell us more about Kate Kelly. Where are you from and where did you study ?
I am a Joburg girl through and through. I grew up here and then began my studies at Wits before transferring to UJ to study chiropractic. After I qualified I moved to and worked in Pietermaritzburg for a year, but Joburg pulled me back.
2. You are passionate about Chiropractics. Why the career choice?
Having come from a medical family, I knew from a young age that I wanted to work in the medical field. I have also always had a passion for sports, both watching and playing it. Chiropractic gave me an opportunity to combine my love of sport and my pull towards the medical field.
3. You work with an amazing Chiropractor in Dr Simon Lawson. Tell us more about him, in your eyes?
Dr Lawson is someone I have looked up to since I began my chiropractic journey. He is a wealth of knowledge and has been a leader in the field for many years. His experience and qualifications in the field of sports chiropractic are unmatched and he is always happy to share his knowledge and his passion. I have been lucky enough to learn from him, both in the classroom as a student and as a professional. I have huge respect for Dr Lawson and am so grateful to be able to work alongside and be mentored by him.
4. What is to come for you in the next 5 years ?
My first love in chiropractic was sport, but as I have grown in my career I have developed a special interest in paediatric chiropractic. I look forward to honing my skills in both these areas. With junior level sports becoming more and more competitive I believe there will be opportunities to combine these two loves and grow in this field.
5. 2020 and 2021 has been a few years to remember regarding COVID_19. How has the pandemic affected you positively ?
The effects of the pandemic have challenged me in so many ways. One of the biggest challenges was not being able to work under level 5 lockdown. That time away from the office highlighted how much I love what I do. It reignited my passion and drive and I couldn’t wait to get back into the office.
In all of this, I have also learned that the most important things in life are not ‘things’. When life goes pear shaped (both personally and professionally), it’s is the people you have beside you that pull you through.
