Wanderers Sports Medical Centre donates fitness equipment worth R10 000 to Fairways Primary School
Johannesburg, Monday, 11 September 2017 - Wanderers Sports Medical Centre (WSMC) continues to bridge the massive gap seen between the elite and amateur sports, the centre recently donated fitness equipment worth R10 000 to Fairways Primary School in Illovo.
By sharing knowledge through education in Health and Fitness, WSMC's main aim is to create a smaller divide between the elite and amateur sports in South Africa through a Social Responsibility strategy.
Fairway Primary School, was the first school to benefit from this strategy. Deputy Principle of the school, Praksha Pattni, is an avid fitness fanatic and because of her passion has decided to start aerobic classes, as an extra-curricular activity at the school. The school has been struggling to find financial assistance for aerobic steppers for over a year, until WSMC and Origin Fitness SA came to her assistance.
“WSMC and Origin Fitness SA, both share the same vision that is, educating the youth in health and fitness. Through educating school children at an earlier age they become more aware of the importance of exercise, which stands them in good stead as they grow and improve in their chosen sport. Hence this begins to close the gap between the amateur and the elite, “expresses Craig Govender founder of the Wanderers Sports Medical Centre.
WSMC has now built an association with Fairways Primary School, and will continue to assist by educating the teachers and parents of the school by addressing important medical, health and fitness topics that maybe beneficial to reaching their sporting dreams.
“WSMC, has a great medical team, which includes Biokinetics , Dietician, Chiropractors, Clinical Psychologists, Homeopaths, Orthotist and Prosthetist, Podiatrists, Physiotherapists, Sports Physicians, Sports Vision Optometry, Personal Training, a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber and with the combination of our equipment we hope to help as many school children as possible”, says Ivan Blumenfeld.
The Wanderers Sports Medical Centre was founded by Craig Govender who has assembled medical and allied professionals with a vision of creating winning athletes, bridging the treatment and conditioning gap between professional and amateur athletes, as well as creating a healthier society at large through the promotion of physical literacy and sport skills development.
Fairways Primary School, received 10 Aerobic Steppers to the worth of R10 000 and this will go a long way to growing the aerobics classes, started by Deputy Principle Praksha Pattni.
The centre boasts a multidisciplinary sports medical team offering rehabilitation, weight management solutions, high-performance sports conditioning, sports and position specific conditioning programming across all sports, and community fitness programmes.
