Schalk Joubert on Homeopathic Medicine

Dr Schalk Joubert

Please explain to the readers, what exactly is Homeopathy ?

Homeopathy is a medical therapy that was developed in Germany in the 19th century and gained popularity due to successful treatment of both acute and chronic conditions with little to no side effects.

Homeopathy is based on the idea that “like cures like”. For example, if a substance has the ability to cause symptoms in a healthy person, a very small dose of the same substance has the ability to treat similar symptoms when a person is ill. In theory, Homeopathic treatment enhances the body’s natural healing and repair mechanisms to restore health. Homeopathy is safe and can be used for any type of ailments.

Homeopathic doctors in South Africa are clinically trained diagnosticians. We focus on individualised and personalised treatment protocols to gently and effectively restore health to our patients in the most natural way possible.

Where are you from, where did you study and why did you venture into Homeopathy ?

Born & bred in Pretoria, studied at the University of Johannesburg & graduated in 2017. I immediately went into private practice alongside my brother who is also a Homeopath. From a very young age, I was exposed to Homeopathy as I really struggled with eczema and the only effective treatment that assisted me was Homeopathy.

A bit of personal history which helped push me further into the field was when my dad was bitten by a spider and faced the possibility of having his limb amputated, we turned to Homeopathy which proved to be the saving grace and my dad averted losing his leg.

Homeopathy always interested me thereafter, and I found great respect for the field once I saw the effectiveness of the therapy.

What will be your special / unique methods of treating ailments?

Biopuncture is a form of injection therapy method using very small needles with specialized Homeopathic solutions to treat various types of ailments, anything from a sore shoulder to headaches, or even colds and flu can be treated effectively using this approach.

WSMC has been established since March 2016, what made you make the move to join the team ?

I have always believed that working in a multidisciplinary practice is essential. You learn from others and that's how you grow as a physician, learning and understanding how other modalities can also benefit a patient.

WSMC has a great track record. The practitioners currently at WSMC have some impressive credentials behind their names and to have the opportunity to work alongside them, was again a no brainer for me.

We believe you are a sports fanatic. How do you see yourself evolving in the sports environment?

Indeed! I am an avid supporter of Chelsea and the Proteas. I have always been passionate about sport, and have played a lot of sport, especially cricket for most of my life.

There is a place for complementary and alternative medicine in sport. Not only with care and management of sports injuries, but also to help athletes reach their peak physical performance and to maintain optimal health. Combining sport and medicine, it’s a match made in heaven for me.
