We have a Wynberg Boy in the Bull”RING”….. 5 Minutes with Timothy Fester

Timothy Fester with Lions Cricketer Cody Yusuf

You come from a well known school in Cape Town, that produced many international sports stars. Tell us about your time at Wynberg Boys and why Physiotherapy ?

I initially went to Wynberg because it's a cricket cathedral but cricket didn't work out, luckily I was decent at academics and physio was always what I wanted to do, since grade 10. It also helped that my cousin, Janine Smith studied Physiotherapy at UWC and she is a role model of mine. Physio and cricket were always in the family.

You studied at UWC and now find yourself in Johannesburg.  Give us an insight on that journey

I owe a lot of gratitude to Brent Hess, the head of high performance at UWC Sport, for pushing me to be involved in sports physio all the way back in 3rd year of varsity. The sports clinical block and involvement with different sporting codes he helped to setup for student physios just put us as UWC ahead of other universities in the country.

How has your time been at WSMC since you arrived in August ?

My time at WSMC has been filled with a lot of growth in a short space of time. WSMC has definitely fulfilled a lot of childhood dreams of mine. I'm surrounded by colleagues who produce excellence consistently, and that is infectious and pushes me to continue to raise the bar.

What are is your two year goal?

My short term goals are definitely further studying, doing a masters and/or SPT. And to keep raising my standards in Ziyaad's practice and being the Lions Pipeline Physio.
